Shamaila Laila

Good design makes things make sense.

‍I'm Shamaila, the designer and creative technologist behind Neuron Coded. I've never been particularly good at staying in one discipline. I was the kid who loved to paint, then spent several years studying psychology because I was fascinated by people and how the world around us shapes what we do.

I later spent over a decade in health and social care, eventually moving into senior leadership and becoming interested in how design, communication, systems and technology could make peoples lives easier or get in the way.  

I care about making things that are clear, intuitive and considered - whether that's a website, a visual identity, a workflow or something that doesn't fit neatly into a category yet. I'm interested in taking an idea from its roughest, messiest version and finding the form that brings it to life.

I love helping someone take an idea they've been carrying around in their head and turn it into something real. I like seeing a business become clearer, a complicated idea start to make sense, or a project finally move from “I really want to do this” to “oh, it's actually happening.” There's something satisfying about helping people build things they care about, particularly when good design or technology gives them the space to grow.

Outside of work, I'm curious by nature which has resulted in a slightly unreasonable number of ideas, a huge TBR list, multiple notebooks filled with paintings and poetry, and a growing list of think-pieces.
